Marraxtí – Week 14…A new companion and a slow week 🏝

Hello everyone, how are you all doing today?

Wow, what a first week it's been with my new companion. His name is Elder Apodaca. He is from Gilbert, Arizona and has 3 months left. So, he will stay here for two transfers. That probably means that I will leave Palma this transfer. 😢 I don't know yet, but it could happen. We did a lot of shopping today. We went to festival park and I got myself a Barcelona jersey at Nike. When we went back to Palma, we went inside H&M and I got myself 3 pairs of "unique socks" like the kind I used to wear back at home. Haha, they are the best.

We are working hard here in Marratxi although it's a bit difficult. Me and my companion are different. He is calm and not very animated while me on the other hand, I am more of the energetic type. So, I feel weird [a little bit]. But he is a good elder. It's just that we got to work through some of the kinks, ya know.

I feel a heavy responsibility to carry on the area and lead the area. Since my companion is a missionary from Malaga, I am teaching him things about being how we do things here. Well, it's a load of work. But I make do with what I have. Lol.

The miracle of this week was that I was able to receive some personal answers to my prayers and that Harold was able to come to church this past Sunday. He is an amazing man. He is from Colombia but is as white as snow, lol. His family got baptized in Colombia and wanted him to find the church here. He did and now we are teaching him.

Answers to questions....
Did you ask me to send you peanut butter?  I’m sorry if I forgot.
I don't think I asked for peanut butter. I do want some baby paste. That stuff is GOLD!

Do you know when your next Zone Conference is?  I want to send you a package.
I have no idea when Zone Conference is.

What areas of your mission would you like to serve in (that you haven’t been to)?
I would like to go to Valencia and then to Barcelona.

Did you ever find a white shirt to buy or do you need us to send you a couple?
I have obtained a couple from missionaries who left them. But you can send one if you would like. I won't say no, haha

Are there any changes to your email time under this new Mission President?
We have all day to write but I will stop writing in 30 minutes because we have to go to piso and get changed. I’m not happy, but it's what my companion wants for today.

What are your thoughts about those packing cubes?
You know, I would like to try those packing kits. They seem quite helpful. Yes please!!! Besos coming your way!

That's about it for this week. I love you all so much though. I do know that God lives, and that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and mankind. That only through him might we have a hope of good things to come and live a full and happy life in this life time and in the next one. Never neglect your prayers, scriptures are to be read daily, and keep the faith. Love you all a lot!

Well this week was a little more difficult for my boy.  As I have said many times, adjusting to new personalities with new companions takes some time.  But, one thing I know about my boy is that he can adapt pretty well.  He does it because he knows it will help things be better.  But like I have told him many times before, each companion will teach you something that you will need to know for your future and eternal companion, so when times are tough, I ask him to tell me what this companion is teaching him.  Adjusting the perspective a little, helps.

And for those who know Elder Maybury, you know that those socks are perfect for him.  I don’t know that he EVER wore a plain pair of socks after middle school.  And I love that about him.  His desire to shake things up with crazy socks speaks to that more animated personality that he mentioned.  He is naturally inclined to want to brighten things up, to lift others, and to keep things moving in a positive direction.  You can see that in several of the pictures that I included this week.  I love seeing that his personality is alive and thriving.  For him, crazy/fun socks, help that.  I love that he has embraced that part of his personality!

Even though Elder Maybury sends weekly emails and most of them have been filled with joy and happiness, I know that this past week has had a few struggles.  His companion went home and there are new personalities to adjust to, and he is taking the lead in the area in teaching and finding, and a new Mission President with new rules and commitments…and all of these cause a weight to rest upon his shoulders.  He feels it.  So, if you have not sent Elder Maybury a card in a while, may I ask that you consider sending him one?  He needs some uplifting and positive messages from those that he loves.  Trust me, as a former missionary myself, ANY day you get mail from home, the sun seems to just shine brighter.  It is an INSTANT feeling of joy that comes over you.  Sending a card only takes a moment, I promise.

If you would like to send Elder Maybury a card or letter, you may do so at the following address:
