Lleida - Weeks 13, 14, and 15 ... My birthday, a new companion, and making pizza! 🎈🥳🍕

March 5th
Hey everyone, how has your week been? I hope that it treated you well!

So this week was pretty interesting since we got transfer calls this week, so here it is. I am staying in Lleida, but my companion Elder West is leaving! I have never heard of that before so it was really crazy. He is going to Tortosa where another Elder will finish up his training. I will be receiving Elder Peck who was serving in Manacor out in the islands. He was training another Elder from elder West’s group so we saw each other at the training meeting, but other than that, I don't know him. He was from the Madrid mission, so that's why. But I do know that he plays the ukulele.

We had a visit with a woman named Silvia, and it went really well. All except for when this drunk African man interrupted us twice. But he said that we preached about Christ so he was at least nice. The visit was good, and she was asking questions about what we were teaching so she was paying attention, haha.

On Sunday, Hermana Donahey and Elder West announced that they were leaving. It was also fast and testimony meeting and they shared their testimonies. On Sunday night, we went to go eat at a member’s house who's family is close with the missionaries. Then at the end we all shared our testimonies. It was a good spiritual moment.

On Monday, we went and did a couple of visits so Elder West could say goodbye. At the end we went to the church for the Family Home Evening and goodbye party of the two missionaries. Oh and Hermana Donahey is leaving as well to go to Valencia to train, open the area and be a sister training leader. But she is the perfect sister missionary for it.

Us four missionaries of Lleida grew really close together. We called ourselves the PIÑA (pineapple), because in Spain it means a close group. We came up with a PIÑA song, and at the very end I came up with a RAP, haha, well more or less. Now it's just me and Hermana Delange here in Lleida, the father and the daughter. I'll explain. When I came here, Hermana Donahey started training Hermana Delange. So, Hermana Donahey is a mom and her daughter is Hermana Delange. So since I was the oldest missionary in the district, I became the father. And since I trained Elder West this past transfer, I am his father and he is my son. Making Hermana Donahey his mom and Hermana Delange his sister. It a mission lingo, lol.

It was hard to say goodbye to Elder West, I wanted another transfer with him, but the Lord needs him in Tortosa. Sniff, the birdie is leaving the nest. Haha! But I am excited for a new transfer. I am not the District Leader anymore, but I'm not mad. I enjoyed the time that I had to lead and to serve. It was a blessing from the Lord.

I went to Barcelona to get my now DNI, basically it's my ID to stay in residence in Spain. It was good to finally get another one so I am legal in Spain. The trip was fun and I got to see some elders from my group. But I wanted to be back in Lleida again.

Now I am just relaxing with a member here in his house for now. My companion doesn't get here until 7:00 at night. So, I'll do some shopping and some cleaning up in piso when we get there.  My birthday is week so I am excited to do something neat. Some members are planning something so we will see what comes of it. The big 21! Man, I sure don't feel 21. Then again, I've never been 21 so I don't know what it feels like. Haha!

That's about it for this week. Lots of photos and hopefully those well tell a story or two. Love you all so much. Thankyou for your love and support! Stay strong and keep the faith!

And SHOUT OUT to my mom for her birthday!!!! (March 4th)  You're the BEST MOM EVER!  Thanks for all the support every week and every day of my life.

Love Elder Maybury

March 11th
Hey everyone, how has your week been? Mine has been enjoyable and full of blessings and miracles!

So, this week I got my companion Elder Peck! He's a beast! His motto is "Stress Free Zone." Haha. And it really has been stress free with him here. We get along quite well. It took some warming up and getting used to each other but now we are on a roll. He is from Logan Utah, but he says he is originally from Providence. He is 21 years old and is 1 transfer behind me.

Wednesday was pretty calm. Had a lesson with John Kennedy and we have him doing the 21-day Book of Mormon challenge. We also call him at 9:30 every morning to say a prayer with him and help him do it the right way. We also had English classes that day and it was pretty fun. I bought myself two huge bags of candy but of course, I shared it with everyone. We talked with Jhor for a bit as well at night.

Well Thursday was a special day for me because it was my Birthday!!!! Yay!!! I was able to get myself a new blue suit which was very nice. Rene and his family invited me over to their house to celebrate my birthday. His wife Ximena made a very delicious cake! We then went to the church for Ward Night and they threw me a surprise party which was super nice. I had a fun time and it was a blast!

On Friday we had District Meeting which was fun. The only problem was that I found out that my dear, sweet, and beloved Aunt Evie passed away. This was a real kick to me as I thought that I would see her again when I came back from the mission. But God clearly has other plans in store which I am fine with.  I shed some tears after reading my mom’s email about it and then went back into my district meeting.  Later, we ate at Dominos Pizza and we all ate A TON! Man, my stomach was in some pain, lol.  We then played Soccer at night because we couldn't do it Saturday and I'll explain soon. That was really fun. We also helped set up for an activity for the Older Single Adults.

On Saturday we went back to the church to help finish set up the activity. So, on Saturday, the seminary youth of the Lleida Stake had a Super Saturday. That's why we couldn't play soccer. But what was great was that I was able to see some youth from Sabadell because they are in the Lleida Stake, we all had a great and fun time talking and chatting it up. We taught a friend of ours named Silvia who now has plans to get baptized the 30th of March. She is so nice and a good friend of ours. Then after that I called my parents to get more details about my aunt's passing away.

Sunday was amazing! Church is always the best day of the week for me. But we also had 6 friends come to church! Wow, that was a straight miracle for us. Oh, and Roberlando and Marco Antonio were there because they were at that Activity that we helped set up!  (Reminder:  Roberlando was my first baptism in my first area of Mataró    So it was good to see them there! Later on in the day we ate with a member, and then planned for the next Ward Night with the sister missionaries. Then to finish the night, we had a Family Home Evening about Come, Follow Me and then played "Heads Up". It’s a game in the mobile device where you act out things such has animals, feelings, gestures, to actors, movies, T.V. shows, etc. There were some funny moments including Elder Maybury (me) doing a belly flop. Hahahahaha! Anything to get a point!

Then today we got our haircuts, which included a little argument with some people about waiting in line. I'll never do that again. I bought a forearm handgrip to work out my forearms. We ate at Burger King and are just having a relaxing Preparation Day. My companion also wants to tan outside, hahaha!

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
#8. If the Savior stood beside you, what would he say?  What would he do?  What would he think of the things you do and say?  (from a song).
He would want me to be a good example. Work like I know how to. Not to be afraid of anyone or anything. Don't be trunky and work as hard as you possibly can. And He would say "I love you" more than anything. I think He would say that a lot and then give me a hug.  And cry with me because if the Lord was next to me then I would be crying a whole lot!

Well that's about it for today. A super calm day with miracles all around us. I love you all and I hope that you have a good week. Until next time and keep the faith!

Love Elder Maybury

My Birthday Fun!

(Yes, they shoved my face in the cake.  It's tradition!)

They had a little celebration for me at the church

March 19th
Hello everyone, how are you all today? This week has gone by pretty fast with notable things to tell so let’s get to it then.

This past Tuesday we met with some of the people that we are teaching and the important thing that kept coming to my head throughout the day was that this is real life. It's not a game nor should it be treated like one. (Thanks Mom)  So, I loved that small amount of energy that it gave me to keep going along with another thing that I found on Facebook as I was online Proselyting. It was a quote from Joseph Smith that says, "When God commands, do it". It can't get more crystal clear than that folks. You can't doubt or not understand something like that.

We had a visit with a mother, her daughter, and the mother's friend. It was fun meeting with them. We ate fajitas and then talked about the gospel for a bit. What was brought up in casual conversation turned into a lesson of the truth for all.

We were invited to the Young Men’s activity this past Friday and we were asked to make pizzas. I was excited to teach them because it is right up my alley (as a former veteran of working at Little Caesars). But it has also been almost 2 years since I have made a pizza. So, I bought some pizza stuff and began to experiment, and it turned our pretty decent when I did it in piso. So, the real test would be with all the youth. Oh, and the Young Women were invited as well, so we are talking to about 16+ people all watching me do this. Talk about nerve racking. But it all went well. I wore my cooking apron that says, "You can call me Elder Cook". Everyone laughed at that. It was really funny. I gave the instructions to the youth to give to me while I was making the pizzas so that way, I had them involved. After our pizza activity, we had soccer to play. We usually play on Saturdays, but it was changed to Friday night again cause on Saturday, the Relief Society would be occupying the church for the stake activity. But we left our dishes there over night because we had to go home and didn't have time to clean them. So, they got there before us and cleaned our mess and were mad but didn't tell us about it.  *Face Palm* Instead they took photos and sent it to the bishop and complained.  Now yes, we should have cleaned up, but we came back to do it. They just happened to get there before us. Oh well, we love the Relief Society sisters and all the wonderful things they do!

On Thursday we had our Ward Night and it was okay. Few people and simple but always a good time.

This Sunday my companion gave a talk in church. He did not want to do it but he gave a great talk so it went well. The bishop told us about the mess but he did it in a good way. He understood about it. So, Monday was a regular day, not our preparation day because we all wanted to go to Barcelona and have our Zone Activity on Tuesday. I was a bit sick in the stomach on Monday but now I am better. We had a great FHE with Rene and his family about the Sabbath day. We went to piso at night, as Elder Peck opened to door and walked in, he went to go from the hall but ended up tripping on himself and ate the ground hard. It was so perfect that I thought he planned it! I was laughing so hard! Hahaha!!!

Answers to questions...
Did you get any of the birthday packages I sent you yet?
I did get my packages and I loved them! Thank You so much!!!

What the baptismal dates you have set so we can add them to our prayers?
“S” has a date for March 30th. Another young woman has one for the second week of April that is being taught by the hermanas. She is having her mom come who is out of the country right now.

Well that’s about it folks. I hope you all have a great week. I'll let you know how our preparation day goes on the beach playing volleyball!!!! Yay! Love you all and keep the faith!

Well all, thank you so much for your continued patience as I work to get caught up on Elder Maybury's blog.

As you may know, we have had quite a month in our family with the passing of our beloved Aunt Evie.  She passed on March 7th, Elder Maybury's 21st birthday so it was an emotional time for all of us.  The following week was her memorial service and my son and I flew out to Sacramento to be with family.  My mind was entirely focused on this and not on this blog.

But, now that that has been completed, I am trying to get myself back in the groove.  It's funny, but I am still having a hard time knowing what day of the week it is.  haha.

This was Elder Maybury's last couple of pictures with Evie.

This was at his Open House before he left on his mission.

This was the final hug at the airport before leaving for Spain (June 2017)
This will always be a treasured memory.

Finally, Elder Maybury posted a video on Facebook of him and his companion singing "We'll Bring the World His Truth (Army of Helaman)"  It was a wonderful treat to wake up in the morning and see this post.  I love his face.  I miss it always.  I asked him who came up with the change up in the melody and he said it was him.  I am so proud of him.  I started teaching him a few years ago about harmonies and changing up the arrangement of songs.  I love that he is continually using his gifts to bless the lives of others.  💕💕💕

(if the link does not automatically open, copy and paste this into YouTube:  https://youtu.be/jC5ehCWhuHw)

Once again, thank you all for your the love and support that you give to my son and our family.  We have felt your love and prayers, especially these past few weeks.

If you have a spare few minutes this week, please send Elder Maybury an email.  He reports that he "is trunky, but not really".  He further clarifies that he wants to be home with his family, but "not before it is [his] time."  I can fully appreciate that.  He is in the home stretch and he could really use your encouraging words.  Please send him a little note.

(not this is a NEW email address)

If you would like, you can mail him an encouraging card.  He would love to get some mail.  Please send all cards and letters to:

Lleida – Weeks 10, 11 and 12 … Time is flying by!!!!!

February 11, 2019

Hey everyone, how has the week gone by for you all?! Mine has been pretty fun!

We had District Meeting this past Tuesday and we were normally gonna go eat out as a district, but my companion and I had to dip for an eating visit that we had scheduled. It was about 40 minutes walking, so we put in a good pace, lol. We had some great chicken cooked from an oven and then gave a blessing to the son who has fully recuperate by now and is back to his normal ray of sunshine self. We passed by Brandon and his family as well which was really fun. It's always good to pass by members because you get a small moment to better your relationship with them. We also planned for our Culture Night activity that we had which I will explain in a moment.

On Wednesday we taught John Kennedy. He is progressing a whole lot faster than before and we plan on inviting him to be baptized next week. He is coming to church more often, and it's because his brother Jhor is waking him up to go to church with him so that's a plus. We taught English class to a member and her friend. And Jhor was there so we enjoyed ourselves learning and teaching!

On Thursday we had our weekly planning but then had to finish it early for a member visit. We ate some pasta soup and then a stinking HUGE plate of Pické Machu. My goodness it was so big. I could not finish it, not to mention that my stomach wasn't all to good either. I do not know what my stomach hurts me from time to time. I can't wait to eat some American food with American "quality", haha.

On Friday we met with John Kennedy again. We taught him the rest of the Restoration. We also talked about Yu-Gi-Oh because he plays, and I loved it as a kid. We then had the Culture Night. It was so great, we had members of the ward come and represent their country by bringing food. The Americans (us) completely killed it. I will send picture later.

On Saturday we had sports and this hurt elder was somewhat forced to play but I also wanted to as well. Let me just say that I can be a great goalie a well. And a scorer. When I left the goalie box to come play up, the other team said, "Watch out for this Elder. Somebody guard him." Lol, it made me laugh and feel good. We then had a Movie Night at the church! It was so good and it made me so trunky. I now just want to be in a theater now eating some popcorn and drinking some soda. Hahahaha!!!🤣

On Sunday, church was fantastic as usual. We taught the deacons on DyC 1 and Chapter 1 of Preach My Gospel. It was fun. We then visited a member and John Kennedy came with us! And he really liked it as well! We then had about 15 minutes until we had to go to our next visit with a returning member. We brought a member with us a us well. The visit went well but he needs some help with his testimony and his understanding of things. But all well. We will keep visiting him as often as we can. We ended up not having our meeting with one of the leaders so we planned some more and did calls. We then went to a Family Home Evening and ate some pizza. We went over Come Follow Me. We also played Banana Grahams which was fun, but I messed up on some of the rounds because some letters in the Spanish alphabet sound like another one. So, I messed up on several rounds, Lol!

Now it's Monday and we are gonna do an escape room so ill let you know how it goes next week, alright? 👍

The miracle of this week was that we received a lot of references! We will be working with a lot of them so we are excited! Yay!

Well that's about it folks. I love you all and keep the faith!

Love Elder Maybury

February 18, 2019

Hello everyone!!! How are you all doing today?!

Let's start the week off well.

This past Monday we did an escape room! It was super fun! We did finish and escaped the room. It was a western theme. Super neat. We had about 1:27 left I believe so almost down to the wire. But it's alot better than the last time we did it when I was in Logroño and we finished with 4 seconds left, hahaha! I'm 2 for 2 right now. We had two youth with us, Sarai and Sofia with the two hermanas and my companion and myself. So we had a good group going. We then met with Rene and his family and had a neat FHE.

On Tuesday we did an intercambio with the Andorra elders. I was with Elder Miller who is actually in the Talus Ridge in Utah which is in my stake so that was pretty weird/interesting. Lol. We met with Gladys who is a returning member. We got her to commit to come to church so that was really great. Elder Miller and I felt the spirit because we both had the impression to talk about Helaman 5:12 which talks about Christ being our sure foundation and being set upon him. He then taught me how to do online proselyting with Facebook when we were at the church. After that we visited Brandon and his family which was fun. The family is doing well. They are strong and growing in the gospel and our one of my favorite families.

On Wednesday we met with John Kennedy and his mom Roxmary. We taught the mom about the Restoration and she liked it alot. John had to leave for work hence us just teaching the mom. We had English class as well and that was pretty fun. We made brownies and brought them for the class. After that we talked with Jhor for a bit. We did some calls and work on our records. Then we called it good and went home.

On Thursday we had weekly planning and that was beneficial. At night we took a train to go to Zaragoza for an intercambio with the Zone Leaders.

On Friday we had our intercambio. I went with Elder Cobbly who is from the same group as me (entered the CCM in June 2017). So, we took that day to catch up about our missions. It was a fun day with visits and jokes by all. Then at night we returned to Lleida.

On Saturday we met with some other members and it was all pretty fun. To be honest I cant remember what happened. Oh, we did pass by Roxmary again so that was a good quick visit. Then we dropped of a balloon with a picture and notes to a youth who just turned 17. I find that it's the small and simple acts that no one really expects that make it a good day.

On Sunday we sang the intermediate song with the youth. We sang the "We'll bring the world his truth". It was fun. We then had 3 EATING VISITS. Man, I was sick at the end of the day. In one visit, I found out that she is half Mexican and I felt like I was with my heritage! She let me wear one of her Mariachi hats (a sombrero), which was amazing.

Well I am still stuffed from yesterday. I don't think I'll eat for 2 days. Lol.

Answers to questions...
In terms of a package, would you rather I send you chocolate or contact lens solution? LOL!
Chocolate! I can buy contact solutions here.

Regarding this new announcement where you can call home, what do you think?  When do you think you might want to call?
I'll call once or twice apart from the mothers day. I'll call on your birthday mom and on a couple of other occasions as well. We will see how it goes.

Any upcoming musical numbers?
We will be singing "A poor Wayfaring man of grief" next Sunday. I am singing bass so wish me luck!

What do you think is the hardest thing about being a trainer?
Being a good example. I have to Watch my every move! Lol. But it makes me see my flaws sometimes.

What is the best thing about being a trainer?
Having a front row seat to miracles.

What personal characteristic are you working on this week?
I am working on my patience. Lol.

The miracle was that we set a baptism date with a woman called Florencia. Her date is for the 9th of March. Prayers please! We are working hard here, and Lleida is great. Elder West is a beast! (As always) I love being a District Leader. I love being able to share my experiences with everyone else and being able to help them. I love wit so much, and above it all I love being able to serve them. That’s the best part!

Well that’s about it this week. I love you all and keep the Faith! Have a good week!

Con Amor, Elder Maybury

February 25, 2019

Hey everyone, it's been a fun week here in Lleida, I can't wait to tell you all about it!

This past Tuesday we didn't have district council because we had Zone Conference this past Friday. But more on that later. We kept going through the phone because we have a lot of contacts that there and maybe some potential. We were able to meet with two people that we called so that was really Great! We visited Jhor and his family. That was always great. Oh, I forgot that in the morning we visited Jhon Kennedy and taught him about the plan of Salvation. He had good questions and that message helped him understand some things.

On Wednesday, we met with his mom Roxmary. We taught her more about the Restoration and we just basically checked up on her because she is going through a rough moment. So, prayers for her and her family. We taught English which was really fun. There were a couple of new people there, so we just went over the basics. Then we had our Ward Night activity which was bingo. It was so much fun. A lot of people showed up, the snacks were good and although I didn't win, there was A good spirit there.

On Thursday we met with Maria who is a new person we got in contact with from the phone. She is from the Dominican Republic and is really nice. She came to church with us on Sunday so that was great. We also taught John Kennedy so that was fun again. We just answered some questions he had. We then didn't really have any time to do weekly planning, so we did it in parts. We had to help the Andorra elders find a parking space by the train station because they came late. We all had to catch a train to go to Barcelona for Zone Conference for the next day. Anyway, they barely caught the train though! We already had gone through the terminal because we didn't want to miss it ourselves! But all went well. I saw Hermana Richardson there which was great because she had to go home for some sickness, but she is better now. For those of you who don't remember, I served with her in Sabadell. Anyway, we got to Barcelona safely and in the Barcelona Elders piso, I saw my very first companion from the CCM, Elder Cheever there! He was there for residency so that was fun seeing him.
(Residency is when you have to go turn in your expired residency papers so you can stay legally in the country)

On Friday we had Zone Conference and that was really great. It was really revelatory for me and I want to change some things to be better. We had our interviews with President Galli and it went really well. I loved it. He said that I look good for being a trainer and being a District Leader which most missionaries find hard at times. We came back to Lleida Friday night and the Andorra Elders stayed with us until Saturday morning to go back to Andorra.

On Saturday we had sports, but I didn't play because I didn't want to hurt my ankle. After sports we had a barbecue for the JAS (Young Single Adults) activity. So that was fun. We also had a visit with a dropped friend of the elders, her name is Ana Maria. The visit went well. We talked for a bit with the intent of teaching The Gospel of Jesus Christ, but after taking for a bit, we changed it to the Plan of Salvation so we could resolve some of her doubts.

On Sunday, we sang a special musical number. A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief (Un Pobre Forastero). I sang the stinking bass part. I'M NOT A BASS PEOPLE! But I worked it out, and it all went well. We visited Laia, and ate with her and her daughter, that was pretty fun. We had an FHE with Josh and Jacob at their house, and it was fun. We decided that we are going to form a quartet. And guess who is singing bass? ME! My goodness, I don't know why it happens to me. I wish I had my dad's bass singing skills. Hahaha!

It's been a fun week full of miracles. Even though I got a little sick, I got better pretty fast.

Answers to questions...
Did you get any packages at Zone Conference?
I did not get it, but I am going to Barcelona this Friday for residency so I should be good.

What are your thoughts about transfers for next week?
I think me and my companion are staying here, Hermana Donahey is dipping and so is Elder Lyman. (dipping = dipping past 4 months, which is a long time in one area)

This transfer next week will see Elder Gomez, Elder Newman, and Elder Chin Ah You all go home.  How does that make you feel?
I feel old.

What is your favorite hymn?  Current and/or of all time?
A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief. Of all time, man, I think Nearer My God to Me, and Now Let us Rejoice.

Are the other missionaries and their families enjoying the new ability to call weekly?
Yes, his parents like it better so they don't have to write emails, lol. Or just one of them.

Do you need to send some things home soon?  Are you suitcases too full?
I don't think so, I am going to be letting go of like half of my things, I think.

What Christ-like characteristic will you be focusing on this week?
The same one as always…patience.  Oh, and obedience. Everyone can always work on it.

Elder West is doing really good. He is a strait beast though. Lol. The district is good. I love it here.

The miracle of the week is that we are seeing progress with using Facebook as a way of finding people. We have several visits set with people for this week. Yay!

Well that's about it my friends and family. Am I trunky, no? But I do love my family! Keep the faith and stay true to God!

Love Elder Maybury
