Hey
everyone, how are you all doing today?
Well I can't believe that another Monday has come by
again. It's really quite amazing how I have learned the importance of time. And
it was by doing the Lord's work and being on the mission, Hahaha!
One of the best things about serving in a foreign country
is learning all of the Spanish phrases. Its super fun. I enjoy it because I get
to practice and it makes other people laugh as well. Haha!
Let's see... today we went to puerto de Soller and we hiked
up to the light house (Es Faro). We got some really good pictures which I will
send of course. It was a good hike and I survived off of half a sleeve of
crackers, a bottle of water, a banana and some Gatorade from a friend. That's
about it. When we came back, we went to a sandwich place and bought some sandwiches,
then we went to the church to change and email. Now for some experiences....
I tried making the cookies that grandma sent me. First
batch, BURNT. And not just any type of burnt, like smoke coming out of the
oven! I heated up the oven to much and it fried the cookies! 😱😥
🙂Then I tried again
and THIS TIME....
BURNT!!! 😱😬😩
So that's how my cooking skills are going. I will try
again.
I am planning the funeral of Elder Salazar and I have got
a general basis of an idea I want to do. Now I just have to buy the small things,
and all will be well. It's kind of fun planning his death. Just one week to
go.
Answers to
questions....
Any mail or
packages this week?
I got a couple of things. Some mail form Aunt Maren and a
package from mom with all of the oils, so good stuff.
How did the
interview with President Galli go?
The interview with President Galli was great. He is really
different from President Dayton. But that's okay. I love him a lot already. He
is a goof ball sometimes. And he doesn't speak English with us except in
interviews. Our Zone Conferences will be in English as well.
Are there any
changes/differences to your schedule under this new president?
So, we don't have to run after 10:00pm. Our dignified
language will be done away with. So, there will be no undignified language. It
now feels like it's turning into [a different] Mission and not staying the
Barcelona Mission which is kind of frustrating, but I support him and his
decisions. If it's what he is doing, then I will get behind him and support
him. It will just take a little time for the change to settle in, that's all.
What time does your
church start?
Church starts at 10:30 and we have to get there early to
set up the chairs. Not fun.
How is it going
with grandma’s cookies?
See above. I will
try the cookies again.
Do you think you
will be transferred this time?
I'll stay here since my companion is leaving. I might
train. Not sure.
The miracle of this week was that we have received several
good references and one who really wants to get baptized. He told us, "Well we have to meet so I can be prepared
for my baptism on the 18th of August". He is a good fellow.
This past Saturday, we played Soccer. I was playing for 4
hours and I got roasted from the sun. A complete difference from the two colors
of my skin. And the skin was leaving from feet and I have a hot spot there as well.
[The youth I talked about last week] is doing well. He is adjusting
to his new life and loves being with us. He wants to make new friends and loves
the activities as well. He is super good at soccer as well.
Well that's about it this week. I love you all super lotta
much. I am doing great, getting burned in the sun and become a champion at
soccer. Keep the faith!

My companion loves me a little too much! :oD
Can’t
you just feel the joy coming from Elder Maybury as he progresses each
week? I can. The funny thing is that this week, I didn’t
get an email from him. Each week, I
usually keep myself unoccupied during this email time so I can possibly email
him back right away. This past week, I
had to take my son to get a physical for athletic registration right during
Elder Maybury’s email time. But, I kept
my phone with me, in case I got an email.
Well, I
got 3 emails from him with pictures, but no email detailing his week’s
summary. I couldn’t understand it. I kept refreshing the page and going back and
forth and back and forth. I was bummed! Then at 2 minutes to the close of the end of
his email time, he said, “I’m sorry we didn’t get a chance to email back and
forth, maybe next week.” And I thought…”But
I didn’t get ANY email…!” I was
confused. 😢
So,
after getting home, I realized he DID write an email…he just didn’t hit
SEND. So, I was able to get it
later. Whew! Crisis averted. *LOL*

I
absolutely LOVE that he is not only trying to make these cookies, but that he
burned them! …Twice! It just makes me laugh. I WISH I had a picture of them coming out of
the oven smoking! *hahaha* His father
did something similar on his mission.
But instead of burning the cake (a birthday cake), he didn’t cook it
long enough and the inside was still gooey.
Then, he didn’t have any pot holders to take the cake out of the oven,
so he improvised. He used…two plastic
cups!!! Hahahahaha! These two are a hoot!
And as
he mentioned, he is “planning the funeral” for his companion. Such an odd tradition, but the missionaries
enjoy it. His companion is going home
next week (August 7th). He is
from Ecuador, but I think his family actually lives in the south of Spain. I know that my son will miss Elder Salazar a
lot. He has been a good companion for my
son and I have seen him grown in beautiful ways over these past 3 months with
Elder Salazar. They will always be
friends and it will be time for my son to have a new companion. Next week we’ll see if he stays in his area
or is transferred and who his new companion will be.
And I
waited to get this all written today (August 2nd) because today my
son has 299 days left in his mission.
These are small milestones, but when your baby is away from you for 2
years, these small milestones make a big difference! I cannot put into words
how proud I am of my son for his decision to serve and for his continued
dedication in his service. I am also so
grateful for the love and support that so many people have shown my son. He absolutely feels your prayers for him. He is so grateful for your love and prayers,
as am I.
I know
that there is no better place for my son right now. I know he is being watched over by a loving
Father in Heaven. I know he is molding
my son into his best self and is giving him experiences that will help him
grown physically, but mostly spiritually, and these experiences will be the
foundation for the rest of his life as he continues to serve the Lord and
others throughout the remainder of his life after his mission. The joy that my son feels now, serving the
Lord, is a gift that has no price. It is
the one thing we all want our children to experience – pure joy and happiness,
serving others.
