Hola! Como le va?
Another week is done here in Mataró! Can you believe it!
So, my ear is better I guess. I take ibuprofen from the
prescription that the doctor gave me. He says that there is just a little
inflammation in my right eardrum but nothing serious and nothing in the
left.
It's very nice having 2 elders here. I can always go to them when [I
need a break from my companion]. He’s not
bad or anything but sometimes you just need a new perspective to see. But no
problems. We split Mataró now. I like it because we can focus more directly on
certain people. I like working with the less actives. It's fun to me. We have 2,
possibly 3 investigators right now. We are working hard with them and next time
we meet, we plan on extending the baptismal invitation to them. So, all good
things here.
I am working hard to try and get the language. I am just about
done with 2nd Nephi in Spanish. Quizas siete capítulos. Yo quiero estar en Alma
por Octubre y yo quiero terminar el Libro de Mormon antes de Navidad o Diciembre.
So, I am moving full steam ahead with that.
We had a church activity today. We went to a member’s house and he
owns a video space of land! We had paella today. It's rice with onions and
peppers and some fish and meat. Really good actually. I took some pictures
though none with me in it because I didn't think about it. A lady did try to
give me besos today! She is a lady we visit and she like 98! Haha! I resisted
though! Still clean, lol. We played a couple of games and now I am emailing
you. It took up most of the day which I am actually mad about because we might
not be able to go shopping today, again! Well, love them that make mistakes and
ask for forgiveness for rushing to anger. Always a missionary!
So, I think I have a cavity. Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's coming from my pocket unfortunately. I don't know what's up. I floss,
brush and use mouth wash! So I might need to get another appointment. Agh!
Sorry. I just have week teeth I guess. I try to stay away from sugar and I
don't really eat candy anymore.
I am really glad to hear you are all doing superb!!! I know the
Lord takes care of you. I pray every day for you all. Focusing on the work can
be difficult, especially with the language barrier. That gift of tongues would
be nice right now, but I'm working for it! I am getting better in adjusting to
being here and a missionary. Sometimes I sit in my chair and think, "Wow. I am really doing this. I am here in Spain
for two years." So I got out each day and give it my all. We are all
safe and doing well here.
My talk went fine. Presentation was bad because I was looking down
at my tablet but what's to expect. It will be better in the future. I was told
the message was really good. Like a "9 out of 10" from my companion.
So, I am glad for that. Sebastian, who is a member here, is really helping me
out. I am bringing a Spanish learning book and after ping pong and Noche de
Hogar we are going to go over it.
I think about you every day.
I know you think about me, too. Sometimes, I can feel your love so
strong for me. I feel your love for me
all the time, but sometimes it just hits me like a train! So, I thank you eternally
that! ❤️
Mom and Dad you gave birth to a champion! You gave birth to four
champions, but I am talking about me right now. You know how you can tell or
feel that you are destined for something great and something big? That is how I
feel when I look back on my life.
Everything is a stepping stone, even when it feels like we are falling
down, we are really moving up. We are
moving up to our purpose and our accomplishments. I will take the mission step by step and day
by day. And you better believe that when
I say that I am going to work hard in this mission and get this language down,
know that I mean I am going to work 110% to make it happen. I love you all so much. Time will fly by soon. It’s starting to for me…but not fast
enough. Haha. I love you all for time and eternity!
By the way, dad's birthday letter is in the mail! I hope he likes
it. I am working on Isabella’s now. I try to get a head start in case I don't
have time in the future. And thank you for all the letters. It helps me to have
a part of you with me. It gives me strength when all of mine is gone. I do the
mission for the Lord and for you all. I love you all a lot. I will talk to you
next week!!! I love you mom!!!!!
With Love,
Elder Alexander J. Maybury
Cheeeeeese!!!!!
A flower for my momma!
The brothers of the ward try to teach us how to make paella (I'm not in the picture).
The hermanas making paella. It was GOOD!!!
Just a reminder of my focus for two years.
Well what a wonderful update from our son. It is good to feel through his letters that he is finding his focus and rhythm and that he is working through the struggles. All missionaries have struggles. They vary, but for almost all missionaries, this is the first time that they have lived away from the comfort of their home for a long period of time and they have to figure things out on their own and figure out how to live with a companion and make decisions together and love and serve the people of their mission. This is why serving a mission is so valuable and why it helps a young man or woman develop so strongly in so many areas. I am so grateful for Alexander's service and for his efforts to face his challenges head on. The spirit of determination that he has demonstrated most of his life is present in this letter and it is nice to see it.
As a family, we have felt so blessed by his service. Even this move to Utah was something that we felt was a blessing for us and many doors opened to make it happen. So, as we continue to support our son on a mission, the Lord blesses us for our sacrifice and his service. We are happy to sacrifice a couple of years with him so that he can have this experience and so that he can learn and grow so deeply - mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
We continue to be grateful for all of you who pray for him, who write to him, who send him cards and even send your warm thoughts. As you can tell, he can feel them. There is nothing so powerful as feeling this amazing power of love that seems to over take you, especially when you are feeling less strong or tired. Knowing that it is coming from people back at home helps to uplift a missionary and helps them to put one foot in front of the other each and every day.
Please keep Elder Maybury in your prayers. Please write to him if you are able. It will bring a smile to his face...and what a beautiful smile it is.
