Thursday, June 15th
There was something inside of me that told me to wake up and check my emails in the morning.
I woke up at 6am as my husband was leaving for work.
And there it was…an email from Elder Maybury. It was like the golden ticket from Willy Wonka! It was a treasure.
Even though my eyes were still adjusting to being awake, much like a new born baby calf, I shot out of bed to open up my computer to read the email.
What a blessing! Thursdays are his P-day! P-day means “Preparation Day”. This is the day that do not have classes in the AM or early afternoon. Instead, they do their laundry, write letters home, get their haircut (if needed), go to the little shop in the MTC to get supplies (stamps, snacks, etc), go to the temple, and sometimes play more sports (which they do get PE time daily).
Here is his letter home:
Hey mom, dad and persistent followers!
Elder Maybury reporting from Madrid, España(Spain). It is very hot here and Sacramento heat has nothing on the how hot it is over here. So my P-Day is Thursday and I can check my emails about 2 1/2 hours after I send it so 5:00 here is when I can look at them so send me something back por favor!
It's been exhausting here at the MTC. It is such a tight schedule that you have to keep. At least 3 classes and 2 meetings a day. Classes can be about an hour long but meetings can be from 1-2 hours long which is not fun because we get so tired through out the day. I feel drained all the time. The Spanish here is I guess the same. It's such a crash course though. It's been so long since I have tried to remember something. Writing it done is the best way though. It's a long process.
So I met Alberto Fernandez who apparently taught with my mom in the MTC. It's really cool to meet him and have a connection like that. He is the Madrid temple coordinator I believe. I saw a picture of him back in the day at the MTC and looks exactly the same! Cool dude.
Elder Cheever is my companion here and he is a cool dude. He knows a good amount of the language. I would know the same amount of I payed attention in Spanish class.
It's worth it being here. The gospel is so amazing and to be able to travel to a different country and share it is so amazing. Blessings are all around. Take care and keep the Faith!
He attached 3 pictures. One is with his companion Elder Cheever. One is with Alberto (that he did not know we received the day before). And one is of a disgusting and ugly beast of a spider. ICK! (I post it anyway because it is from my son).
I forwarded the email to James and told him to write back before 8am so that way Alexander would have a chance to read our emails that evening. Otherwise, he would have to wait until his next P-day to read the emails, as they are only allowed to read emails on these days. This helps them to stay focused on their studying and training and not get distracted.
Both James and I fired off our emails and it felt good to know that we were finally communicating with our son.
Day four done. Only 726 more to go!!!! *LOL*
(I will definitely stop counting at this point)
