Pamplona – Week 11…This week went fast / Just a quick note

Hi mom! How are you doing today?!

Wow, I really can't believe that it's Monday already. This week has gone by so fast. So first of all, I have not had Zone Conference yet. But I will let you know all about it next week. I am excited to sing. Not really nervous, I'm just in the waiting phase right now if you know what I mean.

So this email is going to be short because I am doing it on the phone. Why? Well right now I am sitting in a Glasses store for my companion. You know, I can't even go into it because [I feel upset.  Because of these extra errands, I don’t have a lot of time to write to you.  This is why I feel upset.]  NO ONE MESSES WITH MY WRITING TIME! NO ONE!!! So you can be sure that there will be a talk about this. Believe me, I will do it.

But other than that, it was an okay week. I have had to talk to my companion about some [things]. But, it's a growth for me because before the mission, I would have never done it. But now, it's a matter of being accountable to the Lord, the Mission President and then my companion.

Answers to questions that I can respond to...
Is there a food that you have been served that you can’t stand?
I do not like rice with milk that is warm. If it is cold, I can eat it, but if it is warm, then no.

Have you eaten a lot of paella there?
I have eaten some paella but not a lot in Pamplona. I ate a lot of it in Mataró.

Have you used the coconut oil for your cavity tooth?
I have not used the coconut oil, pardon please.

How did your interview go with President Dayton?
Interview with President Dayton was fantastic!!!! Probably one of the best ever. He takes a real personal interest in me.

I don't have any pictures this week, just one so I'm sorry for that. But I hope it's one of those pictures that tells a story. I don't know what story, but maybe there is one there.

I talked to Hermana Dayton about my skin color and what season I am. She said I am definitely a winter! And these are her words, not mine. "Oh, that is easy! You are definitely a winter.  You have nice dark hair, you have a beautiful olive in your skin, your eyebrows shape your face perfectly, you have nice dark brown eyes, you have full lips as well." And all I could think of was "Thank you parents and God for all of what you have given me". Haha! And some other things about what I should wear but I will skip that for now.

The miracle this week was we were able to get in contact with an investigator form the hermanas and meet with him. His name is Albert and he is from Ghana. He is 17 years old and super nice. He speaks English and Spanish, and his native language of course. We will invite him to be baptized this coming Thursday when we meet with him again.

For preparation Day we stayed here in Pamplona and had some fun. We are Burger King and played ping pong. I bought a tuner to help me fix the notes on my ukulele. That's a work in progress still. Elder Vargas got a haircut and we finally did compras (groceries). We have not done them for 2 weeks so we literally ran out of food. LITERALLY OUT OF FOOD! That was another miracle which was some members invited us to eat with them for lunch. That was so helpful for me.

Well, that's about it! I love you all and I well load the next email next Monday. Be safe and keep the faith!

Love Elder Maybury

The Pamplona Missionaries

Well, even though it was a short email this week, it was still good to hear from my son and to know that he continues to be a warrior in Spain.  And I love seeing his face in these pictures.  I miss his face and his smile and his voice in the house.  I am not being biased, but I honestly believe that my children have the best smiles of anyone I know *sparkle*

But it is important to note that Elder Maybury is experiencing a little more challenging time right now.  It's been about 3 weeks now.  But, you know, these things happen.  A mission is a lot of hard work but it is a GREAT experience that helps these young men and women to develop some pretty unique and professional life skills, like learning to problem solve and deal with difficult situations with diplomacy, compassion, love for the other person, and respect.  A skill set that clearly more adults in today's society could benefit from.

So, while my son endures this challenging time, we continue to counsel him and encourage him, as both my husband and I endured similar challenges while on the mission, but most of all, we pray for him.  We pray for him to feel courage.  To feel strength in his footsteps.  To feel the love of everyone back at home who is thinking of him and supporting him and praying for him.  As a beneficiary of prayers said on my behalf, I can speak to the amazing, palpable comfort that the prayers offered by other people in one's behalf can have.

So, I ask you...please pray for my son.  Pray that he finds joy every day.  Pray that his low moments are short-lived and that his high moments are memorable.  Pray that he finds courage every day.  Pray that he can go where he needs to go, say what he needs to say, and do what he needs to do and that every day, he can be the hands of the Lord in someone's life.  This would be my prayer, as his mother.  💕

As always, thank you for supporting my son on this adventure and life experience.  If you would like to write to him, you may do so at the following:

Elder Alexander J. Maybury
Spain Barcelona Mission
C/ Calatrava 10-12, bajos
08017 Barcelona
Spain

All letters/cards require one international stamp = $1.15 / up to one ounce.

And may I just add...he could REALLY use some cards and letters.  Not many people write to him.  He only gets mail about once every 4-6 weeks, so imagine that.  But it you find that you can spare a few moments to write him a little card, I would be most grateful, but more so, my son would be monumentally grateful.  It would give him the greatest smile and uplift him so much!

Thank you!
