Logroño - Week 7 and 8…A “New” Companion and Email Troubles

JANUARY 9TH

Hi Momzee!!!! How are you doing?!

So I am sorry that this letter is late. We arrived to the chapel late so I apologize for that.

But the miracle this week?
I would say is receiving an answer from the Lord to my prayers. I prayed for Humility about my last week I believe. And I was getting the feeling that it wasn't gonna be my companion that would humble me, but something that the Lord was gonna do, and he was gonna do it BIG! And he did. He closed down Logroño B – the areas that the Hermanas (Sister missionaries) covered. Now I know that it might be a lack of hermanas that came in (to the mission), but wow, now I have to learn the Hermanas area and their investigators and menos active (less active). But now that the Lord has answered my prayer, he can help me overcome my problems (of needing to do more work and stay active).

So about transfers. Elder Tuttle has left. He is going to Hospitalet. I am staying here. I am taking over all of Logroño now. My new companion is Elder Chin Ah You!!!! We were together in Mataró in the same piso. Wow he is amazing. He is the District Leader now so that means more Intercambios (exchanges) but whatever. We are going to work hard and work smart. We will get referrals from members, develop trust with them, and get baptisms for the Lord.

This week was interesting. I tried to do my best to work. So, some members complained about the Elders not working, being in the chapel all the time and being on the tablets. So that was a killer for me. Zone Leaders pulled me and Elder Tuttle aside at District Meeting. They talked to us separately of course. They told me that Elder Tuttle was not going to be my companion next transfer so I did know that. But anyway. I will say that…I have repented of them (of my mistakes). But I'm going full speed with Elder Chin Ah You. To be honest, the worst thing was knowing that I failed the Lord and Mission President.  I didn't come in the mission just to waste time, I came here to do the Lord's work and help others know what I know. That is what I want to do. I just want the Lord to be proud of me. It's all I want.

I bought a new pair of suit pants since one of mine is about to die. It got pretty messed up. I guess I worked pretty hard when using them. Haha! I am really scared about taking over Logroño but I am also looking at the positives. Like getting a better chance to know all the members, and working with the investigators of the Hermanas. Also getting another chance from the Lord as well to earn his trust again.

I can't wait to squeeze my little sister. I just can't wait!!!

YES I DID GET THE PACKAGE!!!!!!!😀🙌😁😍😍😄😄🤗😊 OH HOW I LOVED IT!!!!! Thank you so much for the ring. I keep it with me all the time. Thank you for the other gifts as well, including everyone's letter. It was simply fantastic. Just what I needed that day too. Thank you!!! Love you!!!!

So it is definitely getting colder here. It did snow 2 days ago and it is snowing a bit today. Man, I don't like the cold. But I will endure it with a happy and cheerful heart. I would like to go the islands of course.

Well that's about it for now. I love you all!!!!!! Keep the faith and I'll email you all next week. Love ya!!!!

JANUARY 15TH

Hi mom! How are you doing!!!

WOW, what a week it has been. We are working hard here in Logroño.
[end of first email]

Hi mom. I can't believe it. I wrote a whole email and I hit send. Not only did it not go through but it erased the whole email!!! I'm sorry but this is going to be a short one. Stupid piece of junk!!!!!!! I'm so mad.

Anyway, how is J doing? Spiritually and physically. How is he doing in school? I hope he is getting better. I saw the post on Facebook about Isabella and her being fluent. Man, at least one of your children can speak a second language. Maybe I'm just dumber than the average person. I read what you said about the language stuff. I have to say, you hit it right on the nose. When you speak, it just blows my mind. I think you’re right. I guess I need to persevere to the end and stop just hitting the checkmarks. The miracle was probably finding our new investigators. We are working hard in Logroño. We are trying to strengthen the relationship with the members as well. We will be doing Intercambios with members once a week every week. Not something that I am super pumped for but it will be something that helps my Spanish grow.

I hope you get the job. I know that you are working very hard to get one right now. But please know that your efforts are not unappreciated from where you are right now. I'm sure that it would be a lot harder for Joshua and Isabella right now if you weren’t there for them at home. They love you. As do I.

So, I accidentally bought a star wars action figure for 35 euros. Yeah, something I definitely regret. I don't even know if I want to take it out of the box right at all. But I wish I could return it. All well.

So I found my other tube of toothpaste. It was behind one of my toiletry bags, oops. So, I am using that. I have not tried the cord yet. I am sorry. I will do that tonight though. I guess I better send this so you can see it. I hope you like the pictures. I am glad that you get to spend time with the Simmons. I always wondered what happened to them.

Any ways, I love you super-lotta-much momzee!!!! Always have, always will! Love you forever!!!!

Love Elder Maybury

At a park...at night...in Logroño

On our way back to piso after a long day of working - still smiling :o)

Well, as you can tell, my boy is doing well.  He had been struggling with the difficult area and trying to help motivate his companion to work as hard as he wanted to.  Sometimes that happens - being rejected a lot never feels good.  But, he prayed for something to help spark up the energy and the work in the area and look what happened!  They took the sister missionaries out and gave that entire area to my son and his new companion!  There will be lots of work to do now!!!!
Note: Sister missionaries are not removed from an area because there is something wrong with them.  Rather, there are so few sister missionaries, at times, that some areas are better served by the sisters.  It just depends on the area and the mission.  Sisters are usually quite strong as missionaries and they are put where they are needed most.

The email server was having issues this past week and so many of us did not have our emails go through - across the world (as many of us write the night before a P-day) and it was such a bummer to think that our missionaries would not have an email from us.  It looks like he was also having issues as his long messages was lost somewhere and didn't save (which is very rare).  So, I was thankful to get a few snippets from him as he tried again to send me an email.

I am so grateful for the letters that he sends and especially the pictures.  I know how hard a mission can be and I know that value of hearing from loved ones from home.  It cannot be undervalued.  There is no substitute for it.  As I have said before, when you receive a letter from home, it immediately brightens your day - no matter how difficult the day has been.

Please consider sending Elder Maybury a little note.  It would mean so much to him.  You can write to him here:

Elder Alexander J. Maybury
Spain Barcelona Mission
C/Calatrava 10-12, bajos
08017 Barcelona
Spain

All letters up to 1 ounce cost one international stamp = $1.15 (includes greeting cards)

Note:  Elder Maybury's birthday is in 6 1/2 weeks!!!! (March 7th) It would be great if he got a lot of birthday cards to mark his first birthday in the mission field.   🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉

As always, thank you for supporting our son.
