Logroño – Week 1…I was TRANSFERRED!

Well here I am in Logroño. Wow, what a time it has been. I am very saddened to leave Mataró. That is my home away from home. I can't imagine being anywhere else. I do not want to leave, but I know that I have left to come here because the Lord needs me here. And that means that I need to teach someone or I need to be taught something. Either way, it is what the Lord needs and I am here to abide by His will and that of the Fathers.

It is very cold here, or at least starting to get cold. But no me importa, estoy listo para trabajar y para bautizar a la gente aqui. You have to co e in here with the right attitude for right reasons. If you don't, then transitioning will be so much more harder. It was already hard for me to leave Mataró, I don't need it to be even harder.

The miracle this week was being able to see Roberlando recieve the Aaronic priesthood on Sunday and being able to help give it to him. I am so happy to see him progress in the gospel. I have seen a new light in his eyes and I see his determination to stay on this path and endure to the end. I love him so much! Another miracle was that we were at the bar of Marco Antonio's (he is a member) and when we left, we said a prayer that he could receive some business and be blessed according to his faith. Right after we finished the prayer and got up to leave, someone came in and he had some business. I testify that prayer works.

Elder Tuttle is my new companion. He was broken by Elder Graham who is my trainer. Elder Tuttle was also trained in Mataró and is originally from California!!! His dad is a diplomat. Pretty neat! Elder Tuttle has dabbled a little in Rugby too. I am excited to work with him and get some baptisms for the Lord! #SplashZone 🌊

So, as I said previously, it was difficult to leave Mataró. They threw a little party for me which I expected but I didn't think that I deserved it. Being "new" and not being able to speak, I didn't really think that I did much but apparently, I did. An hermana told me that as long as you can teach them the doctrine and share your testimony, they will love you. Which was the case that I saw. I have grown a lot in Mataró and I am ready to keep growing, especially in my Spanish. I took a lot of pictures and I will include those later. I love you all and I can't wait to talk again next week. Take care, keep the faith, and love the Lord.

Love, Elder Maybury.

Here are a few pictures with members in Mataró, saying "adios" as I leave for a new area.  I will miss them.

The youth were amazing!!!

The Obispo (Bishop of the ward) - he talks so fast!!!!

The "goodbye" party for me.

My last morning with these fantastic Elders.

Some friends from the MTC (saw them at the train station during transfers)

My new companion, Elder Tuttle!

Aww, my sweet son.  It is always emotional to be transferred from your first area.  In your first area is where you cut your teeth, so to speak, for missionary work.  You have a trainer that you grow to love because they have taken care of you for 2-4 months.  But, just as he said, the Lord needs you in other areas, also, and so being transferred is also a great blessing.  New people to get to know, to serve, to learn from.  I am so grateful for my son’s positive attitude.  Having a good attitude in the mission field makes a MAJOR difference.

I am so grateful that my son has a chance to participate in these amazing growth experiences.  As much as I try to teach my children, and as much as I succeed and fail as a parent, no amount of parent education can take the place of the hard work and important lessons learned on a mission.  It truly is a gift and a blessing for those who serve.  And for those of us at home?  Well, we are blessed as well.  Although things have not gone the way we would have designed them to be for us, I cannot deny the very perceptible feeling of being blessed by our Father in Heaven.  It is a feeling.  A sense of being taken care of.  Things are not perfect, but there is a sense of peace that we feel.  I am thankful to Alexander for his service because our blessings are a direct result of his service and sacrifice.  I know that his siblings love and miss him too, and they are watching and learning from him, as well.  As I said, it is a blessing to all of us.

As a family, we thank you all for supporting our son.  He loves knowing that you are thinking of him and watching over his family.  He is thankful for your prayers and for your letters.

If you would like to send him a letter or a card, you may do so at this address:

Mataró – Week 17…Feeling fantastic!

Well hello hello again!!!

How are you all doing?!

Well, let me say that this week has been fantastic! It was a lot better than the week before. I will list them shortly. So Roberlando, our investigator is no longer an investigator, because HE GOT BAPTIZED!!!!! Boom! I baptized him in the ocean which was hot and cold at the same time. But after we got out he said to me that, "He was a little cold but now he feels fine." That was the Spirit. That was him being completely new. I was so happy for him. During the service, his friend who referred him gave a talk and Roberlando was crying! I never expected him to cry ever. It was an amazing experience. We conferred upon him the Gift of the Holy Ghost, as well. We did it all on Sunday because he said he wanted it on that day so that members would be there and let me tell you that they were in attendance! It was great! They all love him. He is right at home here.

I have been a lot better regarding my purpose here, my progress, and why I am the way I am. It comes together when you lose yourself in the work, because you don't have time to worry about yourself or make things up that are insignificant. You just focus and are lifted by the Lord. We had Zone Conference and we got our Samsung phones!!! Whoo-hoo!!! It's so exciting! We can use Facebook to find people easier and we have WhatsApp which is basically the communicating source here for everyone in Spain. It's a huge blessing. I was worried at first, but now I feel more at peace. The Lord has consecrated this to help His work go forward. We are doing His work, so therefore He has consecrated us for this work. He will guide us to what is right and what we should do.

We have kind of been in a hard place this past week with me and my companion. So, our two fechas for next week are dropped. One of them moved to Colombia but he wants to continue learning so he can get baptized there. The other one is that we have not had contact with her at all. She doesn't respond or call and we can't get in touch. Hopefully through WhatsApp we can get in touch with her again.

Thanksgiving is here in a couple of days! I am so thankful for all I have that I cannot describe it. I will list a couple though. I am thankful for my family that support me in my mission. I am thankful for the Atonement and its power. I am thankful for my mission and its experiences. I am thankful for my health. I am thankful for my lobe of the Gospel. I am thankful for my God, my Savior, and the Holy Ghost. I am thankful for priesthood power. I am thankful for the message of the Gospel and the powerful change it can make on our lives.

I am having fun here on the mission and in Mataró. I have transfers next week so we will see where I am going or if I stay here. Wherever I go with and whomever I am with, I know it is because the Lord needs me there and has called me for a wise purpose in Him. I love you all so much! Thank you for all you do for me and this gospel! Keep the faith. Remember the Savior, and remember our God.

With love that lasts forever, Elder Maybury

I think the Incredible Hulk was here!

What a beautiful email this was this week.  It was short and sweet, but it communicated a lot.  It communicated that my son knows his purpose.  It communicated that he is aware of his Father in Heaven and that he knows that his Father in Heaven is aware of him.  It communicated that he is grateful for the basic gifts in his life, namely his family, his Savior, and his life.  His humility is such a beautiful example to me.  I love his enthusiasm and his testimony.

I absolutely loved seeing him in the picture with Roberlando in front of that beautiful sea.  Gorgeous scenery to commemorate such a beautiful act of love toward the Savior.  I could not imagine what that must have been like to stand in that water, waves moving back and forth, such beautiful scenery as far as the eye can see, all the while, feeling full of love and joy for Roberlando and feeling the warmth of the Spirit in the cold water.  It must have felt wonderful.

I am proud of my son.  It’s not about the number of baptisms that you have.  I am proud of him for the work that he put in to help Roberlando find his joy.  When you have something that brings you joy, you want to share it with others.  That is the whole purpose of serving a mission.  Sharing the gospel.  I am so proud of my son for setting aside everything for 2 years to serve other people.  The smile on his face in these pictures says it all.  He is happy.  And that is all that I need to know.

I sure miss his smile but I love seeing it in pictures.

I sure miss his voice.  33 more days and I will get to hear it.

I definitely miss his hugs.  The tightest ones on the planet.  579 more days and I will get to feel them.  I can wait.

Thank you for supporting my son.  Your prayers, your letters and cards mean the world to him.
